Basic Skirt Sloper

Last week we looked at the basic bodice sloper. This week we are looking at the basic skirt sloper. Some measurements are taken from the basic bodice sloper.

This will create a straight skirt rather than a pencil skirt shape.

Measurements (size 12 in brackets):

Hip to waist (22cm)

Skirt length (57.6cm)

Hip girth (92cm)

Basic Skirt Sloper:

1.Square out a horizontal and vertical line from point 0. Top left of your paper.

2. On the vertical line mark hip to wasit (is the waist)  and mark 1. Measure out.

3. On the vertical line mark at the length at which you would like your skirt. Measure out.

4. Measure out from 1 point 3 half hip girth, plus 1.6cm (all sizes). Square up to mark 4 and down to mark 5.

5. On the vertical line from 1 mark 6 using the measurement on the bodice sloper 15 – 3, plus 1cm. Square up to mark 8 and down to mark 7.

6. On the horizontal use the measurement from the bodice sloper 33 – 2, and mark out from 0. Raise up 0.5cm and mark 9.

7. Out from 9 measure from the bodice sloper 33 – 32 and raise up 0.5cm to mark 10.

8. Find the central point between 9 and 10. Square down to the hem line. Point 11 is 6cm above the intersection of the hip line.

9. Connect points 9 – 10 – 11 to create the back dart.

10. Mark 12 from 10 using the measurement from the bodice sloper 32 – 31 and raise 1cm above the waist line.

11. Mark 13 6cm up from 6. Connect points 13 and 12 to create the back hip curve.

12. Measure 14 from 8 the same distance as 12 from 8. Raise 1cm above the waist line. Connect points 13 and 14 to create the front hip curve.IMG_48463. Measure 15 from 4 the same distance as 28 and 7 are on the bodice sloper. Raise 0.3cm above the waist line.

14. Measure 16 from 15 1.3cm (all sizes) and raise 0.3cm above the waist line.

15. Find the centre of 15 and 16 and square down to the hem line.

16. Mark 17 10cm above the hip line.

17. Connect points 15 – 17 – 16 to create the first front dart.

18. Point 18 is found half way between 16 and 14. Square down to the hemline.

19. Find the difference between 14 and 16 on the skirt and 30 and 29 on the bodice. Mark this measurement either side of point 18  and mark 19 and 20.

20. Mark point 21 11cm above the hip line.

21. Connect 20-21-19 to create the second front dart.

22. Draw in the waist line between the darts and down the sides to the hem line.
