Audrey Hepburn Inspired Dress

Having been to the Dressed by Angels Exhibition, I thought it would be fun to recreate one of my favourite costumes from film in a more, casual, everyday kind of way. Namely this LBD from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

A few years ago, I bought a book filled with patterns and instructions, that would help any budding seamstress recreate some of the most sought after styles from the past, such as that white dress Marilyn Monroe got blown away in, or Madonna’s ice cream cone inspired 80’s party dress.

I thought I would use a pattern from this book to create a modern take on Audrey Hepburn’s LBD, instructions seen above. My creation below.

I used a scuba knit fabric, which while being very soft on the skin, meant that the seams were hard to get to lay flat, and so the waistline looked better with a belt, but the book tells you how you can make the dress with a zip as well as in knit fabric.

Have you ever tried to create a costume from a film?
